GARDEN CLUB

MEETING MINUTES April 19, 2006

 

President Annika M called our meeting to order at the Redeemer Methodist Church at 9:40am.

A quorum of members was present.

 

Hostesses for the day: Betty T, Erika B and Mitzi G. 

Thank you Carol M for being Hostess Coordinator

Hospitality: 

Guests today:  Rohani H, Trish B, Margaret M, Kay K, Val N and Sharon T.

                New Members:  Wendy T and Kim P

 

Minutes:  March minutes were approved as circulated.

Design of the Day:  Freda L presented tulips.

 

Treasurer’s report:  Alice M reported our bank balance was $4013.04.

 

Unfinished Business:

Motion:  Annika M moved that the club initiate and maintain a website for one year at an approximate annual cost of $300. Motion was seconded by Sharon M. Discussion of the Website, its pros and cons followed.  Bobbi W volunteered to be the Chair of the Website program.

Vote:  Motion carried.

 

New Business: 

1.       Kay P said that raffle tickets for the Plant Sale were available.  The baskets were available for viewing

2.       Erika B discussed the nominating committee situation.  A committee was formed with Linda M as chair and members of Sharon M, Ann I, Kay P and Laura N to work on programs as the job of vice President will be shared by this committee.

3.       Ann I announced that plants should be at the sale by 7 am and that pricing sticks were available.  They will also be available Wednesday, May 3 at 9:30 at the coffee shop next to Thriftway.

 

Show and Tell: 

Sandra P presented Petesites Japonica  (note:  this is an invasive plant)

Elaine J presented 3 rhodie blooms, Unique, President Roosevelt and Crater Lake and a blue clematis (Blue bird)

Teri M presented an early red rhodie (Taurus) and a branch of Walking Stick.

 

Door Prizes:  Hospitality awarded prizes that were donated by Diane K, Freda L and James L

 

Announcements    (Garden Club Related)

1.       Nancy M will be speaking 4/25 at the Library on Quilts.

2.       Pat M has iris bulbs to donate for the plant sale.  Help is needed with bagging.

3.       Various plant sales were announced in surrounding communities.

 

 

 

Today’s program: Mary Robson, a master gardener and celebrated author will speak about “Spring bulbs Here and in Holland”.  Her talk and slide show will be in the sanctuary.

Garden tips:          Do not put daffodils and tulips together in a vase.

                                Put a penny in a vase with tulips.
