Meeting Minutes for March 21, 2007

Diann K. called our meeting to order at the Redeemer United Methodist Church at 10:47 a.m.

Members Present: 39 members and 2 guests

Pledge of Allegiance:

Hostesses for the Day: Thanks to Maxine H., Sharon M. and Gwen W.; the teapot table arrangements were lovely.

Hospitality: Guests were Debbie A. and Sue C.

Minutes: Minutes were disbursed by e-mail and approved by the members.

Motion: Motion was made and seconded to impose a $1.00 fine on the owner of any cell phone which rings during a meeting; motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report: On behalf of Alice M., Ann W. reported our bank balance is $3,453.61.

Sunshine Committee: No reports.

Ways & Means: Seeds and lots of items donated by Betty M.’s family are available for sale.

Unfinished Business:

  1. Vancouver Trip: Gwen W. needs passport expiration dates for those going on the trip, and needs payment of the balance of the trip price by April 1st.
  2. Community Beautification: Sharon N. reminded us about the Kingston clean up on March 31st; A & L is contributing 15 yards of bark mulch; the club will concentrate on Highway 104 at Lindvog.
  3. Nominating Committee: Nancy M. reported that some candidates for next season’s officers have already been nominated; names to be announced when the slate is completely filled.
  4. Plant Sale: Linda M. reminded us to get our plants potted by the first week of April and passed out a sign-up sheet for day-of-sale duties; Maxine H. gave a primer on good plant presentation; Ann W. asked for volunteers to pass out flyers; Teri M. passed around sign-up sheet for diggers and those who need help digging; Kay P. discussed the raffle and a club booth at Stillwaters Earth Day celebration on April 21st.

New Business: Linda M. reported that the May meeting program will be a trip to the Bloedel Reserve for a Plant Identification Tour.

Design of the Day: Carol M. brought an arrangement of daffodils, tulips and muscari; try a penny in the vase to make tulips stand upright longer.

Show & Tell: Elaine J. brought three different camellias; Helen B. had done some wonderful window painting on the glass doors of the church; Reji D. brought a bug for identification.

Door Prizes: Alice M., Nancy M., and a plate from Betty M.’s family.

Announcements:

  1. Wendy T. distributed copies of the Spring 2007 issue of West Sound Home & Garden, donated to club members by its editor, Dee C.
  2. Carol H. announced that the Rhododendron Society will have a plant sale and wine tasting at the Bainbridge Winery on May 1st.
  3. Bobbi W. announced a Noxious Weed class at Stillwaters on March 27th, and passed out an addendum page for our directory containing names of new members.

April Meeting: 4/18/07 Containers with the award-winning Potting Sisters. Container gardening is limited only by your imagination.

The meeting adjourned at 11:49 a.m.
