GARDEN CLUB MEETING MINUTES

February 15, 2006

 
President Annika M called our meeting to order at the Redeemer Methodist Church at 9:35am.
A quorum of 30 members was present.
Hostesses for the day: Kay P, Sally C and Carol M. 
Thank you Carol M for being Hostess Coordinator.  Thank you also to Carol for preparing last night despite being absent today.

Minutes: January minutes were approved as circulated.
Design of the Day:  Margie M presented an “instant vase” made of plastic which folds flat when empty and which is excellent for boats and RV’s.
Treasurer’s report:  Alice M reported our bank balance was $4060.26.
Unfinished Business: None
New Business: 
1.       Annika M reported that Erika B, Laura N and Jerianne H have volunteered to be on the Nominating Committee.  (president and vice president positions to be filled for next season)
2.       Bobbi W, our Website Committee Chairperson, gave a presentation about the possibility of having a KGC Website, discussed various purposes, cost and uses.  Bobbi will e-mail members links to other websites; please peruse the linked websites for further discussion in March.
3.       Linda M, our Plant Sale Chairperson, asked members to look at their gardens soon with an eye toward dividing and potting up plants for the sale.  Linda also passed out a sign-up sheet to “man” a tent at the Community Center on April 22nd, the day the Farmers’ Market opens and the day of the Friends of the Library Sale.  We will sell some plants and raffle tickets and advertise the big plant sale.
4.     Annika M reported that KGC has been asked by the Kingston Parks, Open Spaces and Trails Committee to participate in weeding along West Kingston Road on March 11 and 12 from 10am to 3pm.  A sign-up sheet was passed out.  Ann W chairperson of our Community Beautification Committee will coordinate.
5.        Sharon M, our vice-president in charge of programming passed out a sign-up sheet for members to showcase their gardens in the June Marvelous Member Garden Tour.
6.     Jan H, chairperson of the Aloha Wright Grant Committee, passed out to members the now completed Introduction Sheet and Applications for Special Projects for Educational Assistance.  These materials will be made available at the Kingston Town meeting on February 23rd.  Jan also asked for an additional volunteer for the Awards Sub-committee.  Alice M volunteered.
7.  Annika M requested that all Committee chairpersons write up a document describing the purpose of the committee and how to do the work of the committee.  Please attach the document to an e-mail to Annika by April 1st.
8.  Annika M requested that anyone with ideas for seed sources for the Blanche Gray Shows e-mail those to Ann Ingham.

Show and Tell: 
Helen L presented double primroses in lavender as well as a geranium.
Door Prizes:  Hospitality awarded prizes were donated by Barbara G and Mitzi G.
Announcements    (Garden Club Related)
1.       Nancy M reminded members that she is KGC’s liaison to Kingston Citizens’ Advisory Board and announced that Congressman Jay Inslee secured a $150,000 grant from HUD to aid Kitsap County in the purchase of the old Navy housing on West Kingston Road. The property purchased will become part of Kingston's Village Green Park, a long awaited community project.
2.       Jerianne H thanked members for their support upon the passing of her mother.
