Welcome:  Pres. Liz called the meeting to order at 9:30am.  She thanked the hostesses: Carol W, Randi,  Diann and especially Carol.   Diann  took  Nancy’s place as a hostess.

 

 Pledge of Allegiance was said.

 

Program:   VP. Catherine introduced the speaker: Katy Biegelow.   ISA certified arborist PNW certified Tree Risk Assessor and register consult arborist with ASCA.  Katy gave a wonderful presentation, giving us great information about trees and growing plants beneath trees.

 

Guests were introduced.   Nancy introduced her guest Linda.

 

Approval of minutes: Minutes from the September meeting were approved.

 

Treasurer’s report:   Jan gave the treasurer’s report for Ann I.  She stated that the balance as of 9/30/2010 was $9655.95.

 

Committee reports:

 

Ways and Means:   Mitzi  explained that many items were for sale and that if you brought something and it doesn’t sell…you need to take it home.

 

Sunshine:   Elaine said that she had no announcements except that she has just heard at the meeting today that Sue C.’s mother had died.  She will send her a card.

 

Yearbook:  The new yearbooks were distributed.  Please contact Diann, if you did not get your copy. Diann reported that we need to give special attention to pages 12 & 13 of the yearbook.  These pages have our plant sale teams.  Also, the potting dates are posted.

 

Christmas Party:   Nancy reported that the Christmas Party will be Dec. 15th .  Sign up sheets are out to sign up where you would like to help.  The Party will be held at the Kingston Yacht Club.

 

Blanch Gray:  Annika reported that Gordon Elementary had 129 entries. Record!!

Wolfle had 84 entries.  She thanked Cathy for all her work on the ribbons and she thanked the community volunteers Gail and Heidi and also Ann and Doug for their donations/

 

Plant Sale:  Karen reported that all need to read page 10 of the handbook!  She also reported that we will be relabeling the Blue and Green sticks with a B and G to help with deciding the colors at the sale.

 

Sue reported that if you are not listed with a “team” you need to contact Barb A.  She also stated that for every potting session you attend you will receive a voucher for purchasing a plant the evening before the plant sale (at full price) 

 

Potting will be taking place after the meeting today at Sue’s home.   60 plants have been donated from Valley Nursery and Michael is picking them up.

 

November 11 will be a potting party.  Sign up sheets our out for members to bring soup or bread.

 

Quilt:  Bobbi reported that the Garden Club will be doing a quilt again this year to raffle as a part of the plant sale.   There will be a planning meeting at her house on November 15th  at 1:00pm.   Anyone interested in helping is welcome to attend.

 

Kingston Beautification Committee:   Kay reported that the Kingston Open House is Oct. 27th at 7:00 at Kingston Middle School.     She also stated that the Chamber of Commerce web site has posted dates for helping with making the Christmas light displays.

 

Village Green Bench:  Cathy reported that the Bench is done and ready to be installed.  It has a plaque on it stating Kingston Garden Club 2010 and she is working with Bobbie M. on getting the foundation poured so that the benched can be permanently placed.


Stillwater donation:  Liz reported that the KGC donated a plant and a year membership to the Stillwater auction.

November 12  A concert performance by John Nilsen, pianist, at Redeemer United      Methodist Church

November 23  A ceremony honoring police, firemen and paramedics at Bayside Church

The meeting was adjourned at 11:30.
