 Meeting Minutes

November 17, 2010

 Welcome:     President Liz called the meeting to order at 9:30am.  She thanked the hostesses:  Earleen, Mary Ann, Carol H., Carol M., and Pam Wilson.

 Pledge of Allegiance was said.

 Program:    Catherine introduced the Program “Four Seasons of Beauty with Water Wise Plants”   given by Mary Robson.   Mary worked for Washington State University for 18 years, including nine as Horticulture extension agent in Seattle and Tacoma.  As a writer of “The Practical Gardener” for the Seattle Times, she answered thousands of questions about Northwest conditions.   Her program was excellent and we learned a great deal of information about many wonderful plants.   Click here for Mary Robson's Handout

 Announcements:    Carol M. stated the Redeemer United Methodist Church is having a Holiday Bazaar this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19 & 20.  She encouraged us to attend to show our support for the Church as a thank you for letting us meet there.  She also mentioned that there will be a Celtic Christmas Concert there 3pm Sunday, Dec. 12.  Tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com  or at the door.

 Approval of minutes:   Minutes were approved as posted on the web site.

 Treasurer’s report:   Ann reported that we have a balance of $9,655.95.  She also stated that much of this money has been earmarked for items in the budget, such as the $3,000 for the Aloha Wright Grant.

 Committee reports:

 Sunshine:        Liz reported (for Elaine) that Diann had slipped on ice and hit her head.  She had a concussion, but is recovering.   Also Cathy M’s father has passed away.

 Programs:       Catherine reported that Ann Fisher from Savage Nursery will be presenting the program in Jan. on Plant Design.

 Christmas Party:   Nancy M. stated that the Christmas Party will be held at the Kingston Yacht Club, Dec. 15th at 11:00am.  Valet parking will be available.  We are to bring an unwrapped children’s gift.   It will be pot luck A-G will bring desserts and G-W a side dish or salad.   The cost is $5 and to be paid to Ann I or Mary G.   Members are encouraged to give a secret “fact” about themselves and give to Cathy M.  cathymorris@windermere.com   for a game we will be playing.

            The Sub committees helping are:

            Decorating:   Diann, Dawn, Carol W., Mitzi, Maxine, Randi, Annika

            Kitchen:   Bobbi, Jane Ma, Carol M., Eleanor, Mary A, Kay, Sharon Mc

            Clean up:          Elaine, Sura, Karen A., Jim A.

 Plant Sale:   Karen A. reported that Team #6 is in first place followed by Team #4 and Team #2.   The next potting will take place Mon. Nov.22.   Sue encouraged members that have plants that they are storing at home to let the chairs know, so that pricing can be done and that they have a tally of all the plants.   15% of the members have donated plants so far.

 We got a sneak peek at a block for the Plant Sale raffle quilt:  lilies and flower pots!

 New Business:   Liz stated that there is a proposed ordinance up before the Kitsap

County Board of Commissions to adjust the noxious weed fee from $1 per parcel to $2 per parcel. 

 Ann I announced that if anyone is interested in going to Bainbridge Island for wreath making to contact her.

 Kay announced that Friday, Nov. 26 volunteers are needed to help with wrapping the light poles.  They are to meet at the Chamber of Commerce at 9:00am.  Also, Sat. Nov. 27th, volunteers are needed to help putting bows on greens and then hanging the swags on the poles.   This will be taking place at the Port of Kingston Office beginning at 9:00am.

 Show and Tell:   Maxine showed a pretty rose, called Joseph’s Coat.

 The meeting was adjourned at 11:30am.
