KINGSTON GARDEN CLUB
MEETING MINUTES NOVEMBER 19, 2008
Noel L. called our meeting to order at Redeemer United Methodist Church at 10:57am.
Members Present: 38 members

Hospitality: Debbie Thomas, PUD Water conservationist gave a talk on water usage and rain barrels; Susan Lavin, Kingston Library Branch Manager talked about various books available at the library and Joleen Palmer, co-founder of Stillwaters demonstrated how a hoop system is put together and also showed a cold frame put together using scrap materials.
Hostesses: Thanks to Eleanor D., Mary Ann E. and Earleen H.
Minutes: Minutes for October were distributed by e-mail. The October minutes were approved as distributed.
Treasurer’s Report: Noel L. reported our bank balance as $7,009.57.
Sunshine Committee: Diann K’s mother-in-law is in the hospital. Cards can be sent to Diann’s home address.
Ways and Means: Vicki E. was the successful bidder on a beautiful Christmas wreath made by Mary Ann E.
Unfinished Business: 2009 Plant Sale – Laurie Y. thanked all the garden club members for participating in the October potting meeting. A handout was circulated requesting the names of the members who took home potted plants along with the name of the plants and how many. Members are requested to e-mail Laurie with inventory information if you did not attend November’s meeting. Quilt Raffle – Nancy M. informed members that a one day get-together is scheduled at her house on Thursday, January 15th starting at 9:30 a.m. until whenever to cut, sew and iron.
Announcements – Should be garden/community related; also announcements must be given to Noel L., in writing, before the beginning of the meeting.

New Business: Arbor Day Chair – Karen R. has stepped forward to fill this job.
Aloha Wright – Dawn V. presented one request from Kingston Middle School. The committee for Aloha Wright has awarded $750.00 which will be used toward plants for the entryway into the school.
Kingston High School – The ASB is considering a Home and Garden show in the spring.
Winter Holiday Donation – A donation of $500.00 will be given to the local food banks.
Redeemer United Methodist Church – MSP’d for a one-time donation of $50.00.
Wreath Making – A sign-up sheet was available for members wishing to attend the annual wreath making party at the Bainbridge Island Nursery on December 3rd. This is a free event but you must purchase the wreath form; you can take your own greenery or purchase it from the nursery.
Christmas Party – our annual holiday luncheon will be held at Nancy M.’s house on December 17th starting at 10:30am. Members with last initials A-H are asked to take a dessert and I-Z take salads/side dishes. There is a charge of $5.00 for the main dishes and the entertainment. Members are also requested to take an unwrapped new toy along with wrapping paper and tissue.
Show and Tell: Jerrianne H. brought a lipstick plant that bloomed for the first time since she has had the plant.
Laurie Y. brought in a hollyhock flower and seeds for anyone wanting them.
Noel L. –drying hydrangeas – put flower in small glass with water and let the water evaporate.
Announcements: November 29 – Downtown Kingston Assn. is asking for help making the holiday swags. Starts at 8:30 – 12:00 and will be held in the Community Center. Take gloves, pruners and any greenery you may have.
December 10 - Clear Creek Nursery will host a girls night (minimum of 10 people).
December 13 – There will be a home tour in Kingston – price will be $15.00.
General Community Interest: Stillwaters is conducting a Yuletide Auction on Sunday, December 7th, between 4-7 p.m. at the Pt. Gamble Theater, #1 View Drive, Port Gamble.
Next Meeting: December 17, 2008 is the date for the annual holiday party to be held at Nancy M.’s house.
