Meeting Minutes
February 16, 2011
Pam Sinclair from Valley Nursery
Welcome President Liz called the meeting to order at 9:30am. The thanked the Hospitality Committee, Earleen and MaryAnn and also the Hostesses, Jan E, Roddy, Marilyn, Wendy and Carol M.
Program Catherine introduce the speaker Pam Sinclair who presented her program “Beyond Organic Gardening”. Pam has a degree in architecture for the UW and a degree in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design from Edmonds Community College. She has a landscape design consultation business, Gardengal Designs that has been active for about 15 years. She also presently works at Valley Nursery in Poulsbo as a horticulturist/ sales professional. We learned about sustainability and about having gardens in harmony with nature. Thank you appreciation Liz showed us that thank you picture/certificate from the Food Bank for our contribution.

Approval of minutes Minutes from the January meeting were approved
Treasurers report Ann I stated that we have a bank account balance of $8,408.53
Aloha Wright Grant - Dawn encouraged us to have those individuals interested in applying for this grant to go to the web sight, fill out the pdf forms and apply. This grant money is given to those community organizations, particularly schools who want to start a garden, or as a scholarship to an individual studying horticulture.
Kingston Beautification Committee – Kay reported that the next meeting is Feb. 28 at Cleo’s landing. She encouraged anyone interested to attend. This committee is responsible for the hanging baskets in the summer and the hanging wreath boughs during the holidays, also the clean-up days and the maintaining of walkways. Maxine mentioned that individuals may purchase a basket to hang on the street for $100 and $25 annual maintenance fee.
March Program- Catherine stated that Heidi from “Dragon Fly Nursery” will be the speaker at our next meeting.
Plant Sale – Karen stated that they are in need of a person to help with publicity for the Plant Sale. This involves selecting the design for the posters and having them printed and distributed also having the road signs posted and making sure they are in good repair.
The date for the Plant Sale is April 30th. The next potting party is March 7th; also a soup and bread lunch will be served. Page 13 of the handbook has all the dates of the potting parties. If you help with potting you will get a coupon that will allow you to purchase a plant Friday evening before the sale.

Show and Tell
Maxine showed us a branch of Indian Plum - it will display a small white flower – reminder that spring is near.
Noel showed us several Hellebores and several Heathers.
Liz also showed several beautiful Hellebores.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:15.
